How CreativesAtWork began with people...
A story about fatigue, trust, mentorship, technology, inclusion, and why CreativesAtWork is still built around people.
Every story begins with a feeling.
Ours began with weariness. Not because people stopped loving creative work.
But the work had started asking too much of the people behind it. Faster timelines. Unclear briefs. Endless expectations. Great work was still being made, but too often, at the expense of those making it.
Creative people were carrying too much.
We met talented freelancers who knew how to create, but not always how to protect what they created.
Pitching. Pricing. Negotiating. The work was only half the journey. Being trusted was the harder part.
We realised the missing piece was trust.
Clients wanted certainty. Creatives wanted opportunity.
Both were searching for each other, but neither knew quite where to begin. So we decided to stand in the middle.
CreativePeopleAtWork quietly began.
Not as a company. As a promise.
To help good people be seen. To help trust travel further. One project became another. One introduction became another relationship. And slowly, a community began to form.
At the same time, another path was unfolding.
Another co-founder was at MDA, watching media and technology move closer together. She could already see that creative work would one day be discovered, produced and shared differently.
When our paths met, the idea grew larger than either of us had imagined.
We thought technology was the answer.
A platform. A marketplace. A smarter system for connecting people and projects.
It seemed like the obvious next step. Until someone asked us a different question.
A mentor helped us see differently.
He listened before asking a simple question. Why are you trying so hard to become a technology company?
Then he reminded us: "The business you are in is people." Everything became clearer after that.
CreativesAtWork was born.
The vision had not changed. Only the focus had. We were never trying to build technology first.
We wanted to build a company that believed in people enough to keep investing in them.
The circle kept growing.
Different briefs. Different teams. The same belief.
Every project became an opportunity to bring together the right mix of directors, producers, writers, editors, designers, strategists, animators, AI specialists and production partners. Not one team. The right team.
Then we learned to make the circle wider.
Another mentor reminded us that growth should never make us forget those still waiting to be seen.
That pushed us deeper into inclusion, from Paralympics storytelling to CO-Create, where we help the disability community use AI to level up.
Today, the story keeps moving.
Technology continues to evolve. So do we. Dear.AI helps us imagine what's next, but people remain at the centre of every decision.
Today we work alongside organisations as their extended creative team, growing with them, adapting with them, and making sure that as the tools change, the human story never gets left behind.
The point is not to be big. The point is to be right-sized for the work.
CreativesAtWork exists to help companies access the right creative people at the right moment, with the structure, care, and accountability to make the work happen.
